Peter MacEwan passed away peacefully at home on December 12, 2025.
From a young age, Peter (Pete), demonstrated athletic ability and mechanical aptitude. These attributes shaped his life in meaningful ways.
Peter chose to be a civil engineer with a focus on construction management, and his career spanned multiple companies and states across the country. He was a disciplined man, with attention to detail, who welcomed new challenges. Some of his accomplishments included a jail and schools in Denver, prisons in California, corporate buildings in Texas, a sports center at University of Akron and academic buildings at Cleveland Cuyahoga Community College. Peter also served as a consultant to Lorain Community College and the Cleveland Library. In his final project, he supported the construction of the Martin Luther King Jr. branch in University Circle.
In his personal life, Peter was happiest spending time with his wife, children, extended family and friends. He shared his love of sports, attending his kids' sporting events through their high school years. He enjoyed running, playing golf, family ski trips, and Duke basketball games! As a grandparent, Peter proudly watched his granddaughters grow to be thoughtful young women as well as accomplished students and dancers. In his final years, he savored time with his first grandson.
Peter had a passion for cars, mathematical puzzles, Legos, Formula 1 racing, jazz music and road trips. He was equally adept when restoring a GTO, solving a KenKen, constructing Lego Porsches and making spreadsheets to follow his favorite F1 drivers.
Whether at work, at home, or on the golf course, Peter was known for his professionalism, calm demeanor, dry wit, humility, and generosity. He was consistently attentive and responsive when a family member or colleague had a question, concern or problem to solve. Many benefitted from his patience and wisdom.
Peter will be greatly missed!
He is survived by his wife, Kathleen; children, Matthew (Sarah), Sarah (Benjamin); three grandchildren, Ava MacEwan, Felicity MacEwan, Victor Hoffmann; and a sister, Jean MacEwan. He is preceded in death by his parents, Peter (Scotty) and Lois MacEwan.
A Celebration of Life will take place at a later date.
