Peter Maloney Obituary

Maloney, Peter M.
LATHAM - Peter M. Maloney, beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, died on December 30, 2025, at the age of 84.
Peter was born on February 12, 1941, in Pittsfield, Mass. He was the only child of Lawrence "Bounce" and Anna Holian Maloney. Peter graduated from St. Joseph's Catholic Central High School and attended the University of Notre Dame in South Bend, Ind., graduating with a bachelor's degree in civil engineering. Peter married Jane Vogel on July 7, 1962. After briefly living and working in Roselle, N.J., Peter served in the U.S. Army at Fort Benning, Ga. His son, David, was born while stationed in Georgia. After his service was completed, Peter and Jane returned to Pittsfield, where their son, Steven, and daughter, Paula, were born.
In 1969, Peter began working as an engineer for Clemente Latham Concrete and in 1970 the family moved to Latham, N.Y. During his 17-year career at Clemente's, Peter was involved in the construction of numerous projects, including the Empire State Plaza and the Egg. From 1986 until his retirement in 2006, Peter was the Manager of Technical Services at Glens Falls Cement. Peter was a Fellow of the American Concrete Institute (ACI), chair of two prestigious ACI committees, served as president of the local ACI chapter and ran ACI field-testing exams for over 25 years.
An avid golfer, Peter was a member of Wolferts Roost Country Club, from 1972 until 2011, where he won several tournaments. He and his son, Steven, attended many professional golf tournaments, including all four majors – the Master's, the U.S. Open, the PGA and The Open at St. Andrews, Scotland – as well as the Ryder Cup and the President's Cup.
Peter and Jane enjoyed traveling the world. They took numerous vacations to Europe, including trips to Ireland, Germany, Paris, London, Prague, Denmark, Greece and Moscow. They also visited Australia, New Zealand, Vancouver, Bermuda and all 50 U.S. states. Peter was a lifelong fan of Notre Dame football and went to many of their games to cheer on the Fighting Irish.
Peter was a dignified, measured and refined man. He was kind, generous and could strike up a conversation with anyone. He had many friends and enjoyed socializing, and a glass or two of vodka. Peter was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather. Family was important to him, and he was so proud of his children's and grandchildren's achievements. Peter was known for his sage advice. Before his children and their friends would head out for the evening, Peter would remind them, "They will brew more beer, no need to try and drink it all tonight."
Peter is survived by his wife, Jane; and his children, David (Vicki) of Colorado Springs, Colo., Steven (Sonja) of Loudonville, N.Y., and Paula (Kathy Huffert) of Clifton Park, N.Y. He also has five grandchildren: Christopher, Caitlin, Caroline, Laura (Michael Chernoff) and Julia (Justin DeMarco); and one great-grandson, Ethan Chernoff. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Adele Vogel; nephew, Michael Vogel; niece, Judy Vogel Guy; great-niece, Amy Smith; and several cousins. He was predeceased by his parents; brother-in-law, Arthur Vogel; niece, Diane Vogel; and nephew. Peter Vogel.
Relatives and friends are invited to join the family at The Dufresne & Cavanaugh Funeral Home, 149 Old Loudon Road, Latham, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., on Friday, January 9. Funeral Mass to be held at Our Lady of the Assumption Church, 498 Watervliet Shaker Road, Latham, at 10:00 a.m., on Saturday, January 10.

I had the honor of working closely with Pete when he served as Chair for ACI Certification Committee C610 - Field Technician Certification in the 1990s. Pete was always gracious, thorough, and fair, and through his contribution of time and attention, the program has grown to be the most successful ACI Certification program during the 40+ years ACI has conducted certification programs. I personally, and ACI collectively owe a debt of gratitude to Pete. and I will fondly remember the time we spent working together.
