Peter Joseph Metherall

Peter "Pete" J. Metherall passed away on Friday, February 27 surrounded by family in his home in Bend, Oregon. Peter was born in Quincy, MA to parents Virginia and John Metherall. He graduated from North Quincy High School, earned a Bachelor's Degree in Economics from UMass Boston; as well as a Master's Degree in Healthcare Administration from George Washington University. He spent 30 years in healthcare administration where he met his wife, Antonia Metherall. In their 40 years of marriage, Toni and Pete lived in Michigan, Wisconsin and eventually settled in Bend, Oregon. Toni and Pete's partnership and commitment to one another was admired by many.

In his retirement, Peter went to culinary school to pursue a lifelong passion of cooking and baking. His love of cooking was the cornerstone to countless family dinners, holiday meals and weekly get togethers' with dear friends Beverlee and John Jackson.

Peter had spent his days on the water sailing or boating in his free time. His nautical spirit brought him back to the water no matter where he lived. He loved owning boats. He appreciated classic cars, such as his antique red Porsche, Schnitzel. Peter was also a lover of sports, rooting for the Michigan Wolverines, Boston Bruins, Detroit Red Wings, and the New England Patriots. He stayed active, going to the gym nearly every day and walking his faithful and beloved dog, Izzy. Pete also invested in his community by volunteering to read to children at Ponderosa Elementary school once a week.

Known fondly by his grandchildren as "Bop", Peter typically greeted those in a room with a poignant "Hola!". Within his family, Bop was well known for protecting his remote control, his impressive CD collection, and his child-like spirit. He is perhaps most known for his sense of humor and unforgettable laugh. He was a true family man that loved to be in a busy home full of chatter and excitement.

Peter is survived by his wife Antonia; his six children, Jamie (Adam), Justin (Amanda), Casey (Amanda), Jennifer, Tom and Katie; fourteen grandchildren, Rayce, Chance, Kyra, Laura, Nathan, Tommy, Julia, John, Benjamin, Christian, Matthew, Alexandra, Gianna, Joey; and countless friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Virginia and John; brother, Paul; and nephews, Christopher and Sean.

Peter's family will be holding a Celebration of Life service sometime this summer. Details will follow for those who are interested in attending. Peter often donated to Tunnels to Towers Foundation. Any donations in his name can be directed to www.t2t.org.
