Obituary of Peter J. Miller
Peter J. Miller, a longtime Madison resident, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family at home on Thursday, December 11, 2025, at the age of 87.
Peter is survived by his two sons, Kevin P. Miller and Diane Heilman of Piscataway & Gregory J. Miller and his wife, Kristin of Colonia; his daughter, Michelle C. Miller of Piscataway; one brother, Paul Miller and his wife, Linda of East Hanover; two brother-in-laws, David Looges and his wife, Virginia & Peter J. Looges and his wife, Sue; two cherished grandsons, Logan G. Miller & Christopher W. Miller; one great-granddaughter, Quinn Buenahora, several nieces & nephews; and many dear friends.
Born and raised in Newark, Peter was the beloved son of the late Peter and Mildred Miller. He grew up on Vermont Avenue in Newark alongside his brother, Paul.
Peter displayed a spirit of service early in life as he enlisted in the U.S. Army, where he served as an Air Defense Crewman. His duty took him primarily to Germany, and he continued his service in the Army Reserves for four additional years after his honorable discharge.
In a remarkable love story, Peter met his late wife, Mari-claire. Together, they built a beautiful life on Niles Avenue in Madison while lovingly raising their three children. Peter was a devoted father and husband, known for his unwavering work ethic, kindness, and commitment to providing a good home his family. His love for Mari-claire and their children was the cornerstone of his life, guiding him in all that he did.
Peter enjoyed a successful career as an electrical engineer with PSE&G in Clifton, where his vast knowledge and expertise earned him respect and admiration from his colleagues. He was also an active member of Ogden Memorial Presbyterian Church in Chatham, sharing his faith and values with the community he loved.
A passionate hobbyist, Peter found joy in the world of model trains, creating intricate HO scale layouts that became a source of family togetherness and laughter. Fishing and boating brought him peace, and time spent at Cape May with his family was always treasured.
Peter was a proud member of the Florham Park American Legion, connecting with fellow veterans and nurturing friendships forged through shared experiences.
Peter will be remembered not only for his contributions to his family and community but as a man of integrity who lived a life of purpose. He leaves behind a legacy of love and memories that will forever be cherished.
Peter was good man who indeed lived a good life. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends, but his spirit will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend the visitation for Peter to be held from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 14, 2025 at the Madison Memorial Home, 159 Main Street, Madison.
All are invited to gather at the funeral home at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, December 15, 2025 prior to the funeral service that will begin at 11:00 a.m.
Entombment with military honors will follow at Restland Memorial Park, East Hanover.
