Peter A. Modafferi of Palisades, NY passed away surrounded by his much loved family on January 30th, 2025. He was a life long resident of Rockland County.
Pete was an extraordinary public servant who dedicated his life to advancing equality, justice, and innovations in criminal justice. He retired in 2017 as Chief of Detectives from the Rockland County District Attorney's Office. Pete was a man of genuine moral intelligence and integrity. He always led by principle and was willing to modify policies and develop departments to benefit the people of Rockland County. He was pleased with how he saw the world and made decisions based on what he believed was right, regardless of where they fell on the political spectrum. Pete's values transcended politics and he disdained political cattiness.
Although he fought many health battles, he was never consumed with self pity. His strength and determination were unequaled. Pete was a man of great character whose seriousness of purpose was matched only by his love of family. He was kind, gentle, fiercely protective and utterly adoring of those he loved. His self-deprecating humor was unending.
Pete is forever cherished by his devoted wife Mary Beth. He is survived by his brother Joseph, and precious sisters, Mary Partridge (Terry) and Anne Suffern (Bruce). He also leaves behind his loving sisters in law Maryanne Modafferi and his special protector Jo-Ann Finn. Pete was the anchor for a large brood of nieces, nephews, and cousins, all of whom he loved dearly. He adored his many friends with whom he shared a myriad of wonderful experiences. Pete was predeceased by his parents Claire and Joseph and his beloved brother Robert. Pete was truly one of the "good guys" who will be sorely missed and cherished forever.
