Peter “Pete” Andrew Krol, 76, of Sandwich, Illinois, passed away on November 29, 2025.
Pete proudly served in the United States Marine Corps from December 1968 to September 1971. After serving in the Marines, Pete worked as a carpenter building bridges throughout the Chicagoland area and took great pride in his craft. He later worked on Hydroelectric Dams in both Montana and Kentucky.
Throughout his life Pete tried his hand at many hobbies including hunting, fishing, kayaking, canoeing, cooking, birdwatching, dancing, pickleball and golfing, among others. Most of all Pete loved landscaping earning the nickname ‘Mulch King’ from his kids.
He is survived by his wife, Gloria; his children Katy (Dan) Bolger and Peter Krol and his stepdaughter Tracy Thompson. He was a proud grandfather to Aubrey, Evan, Gracie, Ellie, Jacob, and Joshua, and step-grandfather to Trevor and Sean.
Pete is also survived by his sisters Mary Rose (Earl) Elliott and Alice (late Gregory) Kobus; nephews Thomas, Richard, and Gregory; niece Mary Martha; and his sister-in-law Dorothy (Tom) Nowik.
Pete was preceded in death by his parents, Peter and Alice Krol.
In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the National Audubon Society in Pete’s name.
A Celebration of Life will be held January 3, 2026, from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the American Legion, 9054 E. Veterans Pkwy, Yorkville, IL
A private gravesite service will take place at a later date.
