Obituary of Peter L. Potenza

Peter L. Potenza, 93, of Freehold, passed away on Thursday, August 15, 2025. He was born in Newark and raised in Union before settling in Freehold in 2004. Pete's life was filled with accomplishments, including his brave service in the Navy during the Korean War and his successful venture into entrepreneurship as the owner of his own salon. Peter's salon was not just a place for haircuts, but a gathering spot for friends and neighbors to come together and share stories. He was known for his generosity and willingness to help others. Peter had an unwavering dedication to his sister, Theresa, who battled Alzheimer's disease. He selflessly cared for Theresa until her passing in 2018, showing immense love and compassion during a difficult time. He had a knack for making everyone feel welcome and appreciated. Peter's life was filled with many highlights, but one of the most cherished moments was when he moved to Rivera, Freehold in 2004. It was there that he met many friends who became like family to him.

The family wishes to express their appreciation and gratitude to the staff of CareOne at Wall.

Peter is predeceased by his sister, Theresa A. Potenza. He is survived by his brother, Rosario Potenza of Point Pleasant; nieces and nephews, Christine Campbell and her husband, Brig of California, Dan Potenza and his wife, Theresa of Howell and Michael Potenza of Farmingdale; many great nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held at the Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, 100 Elton-Adelphia Road (Route 524), Freehold Township on Wednesday, August 20, 2025 from 9:30 to 10:30 AM. Relatives and friends are invited to attend his 11:30 AM graveside service at St. Gertrude's Cemetery, 53 Inman Ave, Colonia. My husband and I met Pete when we moved into the Riveria at Freehold over 20 years ago. Pete was known by many for his kindness and true caring for others. My husband being a quiet person met Pete in the gym in our community and right away introduced him to everyone. The two became friends through their love for golf and baseball. There were many times Pete was in my house while the two of them spent hours in front of the tv watching golf tournaments.
Pete always had a kind word and positive outlook on life and ready to help anyone that needed it.
I will miss him greatly and blessed to have known him
