Peter L. Sabino, a dedicated and esteemed Captain for the City of Cincinnati Fire Department, Station 14, passed away on March 1, 2025, at the age of 90. Born on March 6, 1934, Peter devoted much of his life to public service, exemplifying courage and commitment to his community. He was honored with the prestigious Ben Franklin Award for his exceptional service during the Beverly Hills Supper Club fire, a testament to his bravery and professionalism in the line of duty.
Beyond his career in firefighting, Peter was a man of many interests and passions. He enjoyed boating and was an avid football fan, deriving immense joy from attending his grandson's football games and his granddaughter's various events. His personality shone through his kindness and humility; he was known as a very well-liked man who consistently went out of his way to help others.
Peter is survived by his daughter-in-law, Judith Sabino; his grandchildren, Peter Lawrence Sabino and Angela M. Elfers; and his great-grandchildren, Peter B. Sabino, Avery Elfers, and Carolyna Sabino. He is also mourned by his sister, JoAnn (Earl) Hemberger, as well as several nieces and nephews, who will remember him with love and admiration. Peter’s devoted caregiver, Denise Peters, provided support and companionship during his later years.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 69 years, Dolores Sabino (nee Pfeifer); his parents, Peter and Helen Sabino; and his son, Peter Louis Sabino, all of whom he cherished deeply.
In honor of Peter L. Sabino's remarkable life and legacy, a visitation will be held on March 22, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, followed by a funeral service at 11:00 AM, both taking place at Vitt, Stermer & Anderson Funeral Home Delhi, located at 4619 Delhi Pike, Cincinnati, OH 45238. Memorials in his name may be made to Elder High School, the Cincinnati Fire Museum or Hospice of Cincinnati. As friends and family gather to celebrate his life, they will remember him fondly for the love he gave and the lives he touched throughout his journey.
