W.L. Case & Company Funeral Directors - MackinawBeloved husband, father, and grandfather passed away on Sunday, October 19, 2025, at Covenant HealthCare – Harrison, with his family at his side. Age 76 years.
The son of the late Rev. Harold A. and Joyce D. (Schmidt) Sauer, Peter was born on May 22, 1949, in Rapids City, South Dakota. He graduated from Arthur Hill High School with the class of 1967. He proudly served in the United States Navy, until Honorably Discharged. Peter married Patricia L. Gaylord on October 9, 1971. They shared many wonderful years together. She survives him. He worked at General Motors until he retired after 38 years of loyal and dedicated years of service. Peter was a member of St. John Ev. Lutheran Church, Brockway Road, Saginaw. He enjoyed fishing, camping, hunting, cooking, and baking for his family. Above all, Peter cherished the time spent with his family.
Surviving besides his wife, Patricia Sauer; are sons and daughters, Larry Sauer, Rebecca Rousseau, Jeffery (Sabrina) Sauer, Russell Sauer, Jessica (James) Bradley; grandchildren, Spencer, Foster, Waverly, Cyrus, Joshua, Jayce, Tarah, Natalie, Sarah; sisters and brother, Susan (Bill) Hocking, Deborah (Ron) Smith, Timothy (Sue) Sauer. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.
Honoring Peter’s wishes, cremation has taken place. Memorial service will take place at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 1, 2025, at W. L. Case and Company Funeral Directors, 4480 Mackinaw Rd, Saginaw, MI 48603. Rev. William H. Hessler will officiate. Friends may visit the family from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service on Saturday at the funeral chapel. In lieu of flowers, those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to the Wounded Warrior Project, the American Heart Association, or the American Lung Association.
