Peter Martin Smallegan

Peter Martin Smallegan, 83, of Forest Grove, passed away on Monday, March 18, 2024, at his home.
Peter was born September 22, 1940, on the family farm in Forest Grove. He was the oldest of four children to Nelson and Betty (Palmbos) Smallegan. Depending on how or where you knew Peter Martin Smallegan, he was called either "Pete" or "Marty". Pete graduated from Hudsonville High School. Pete farmed for 62 years, and worked at Holland Hitch for almost thirty years. He was a lifelong member of Forest Grove Reformed Church. He was preceded in death by his wife Arloa (Meyer) Smallegan on April 11, 1992. He was also preceded in death by his sister Carol Engelsman, brother Jim Smallegan, in-laws: Randy Berens, Marlene Menken, John and Pam Meyer, Chuck Devenport.
He is survived by his very special friend and whip-cracker of 28 years Lavonne Walters, his children: Ted Smallegan, Dave and Lori Smallegan, Mark and Melinda Smallegan, grandchildren and great-grandchildren: Kaleb Smallegan and Jennifer Teumer (Harper), Daniele Smallegan and Logan Estepp (Wyatt), Heather Smallegan, Kellie Smallegan and Colt Engelsman (Athena, Wyatt), John and Nicole Smallegan, Jacob and Jolyn Smallegan (Jolie, Jocelyn, Jaxton, Jalaina), Jace Smallegan, Jenna Smallegan; his sister Norma Berens, in-laws: Glenn Engelsman, Pat Smallegan, Randy Menken, Frank and Sara Meyer, Sharon and Ron Welch, Marcia and Ron Klein, Laura Devenport, and many extended family members.
A funeral service will be held at 3:30 PM, Friday, March 22, 2024, at Forest Grove Reformed Church, 1630 32nd Ave., Hudsonville MI 49426. Visiting hours will be 5:00-8:00 PM, Thursday, at the Yntema Funeral Home, 251 S. State Street, Zeeland MI 49464. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Holland or Forest Grove Reformed Church.
