I worked with Pete when he was at the WFO in Tulsa. He was a gentleman and an excellent meteorologist. Pete had a great mind for weather. He had determination and a great ability to analyze a situation or problem and then solve it.
He and I co-authored and published a peer-reviewed paper to help in warning for storms containing large hail. Our research resulted in a radar algorithm that was placed on all the NWS radars and most private radars. In my opinion, there was nothing better until dual-polarization arrived.
I visited with Pete when I was in Jacksonville in the summer of 2024. He seemed so ready for retirement and looked forward to other efforts in meteorology. I am proud and honored to say I knew him and his work. I will miss him.
