Daniels Family Funeral Services - Strong-Thorne MortuaryPeter Wei Ting Yu, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed peacefully on September 22, 2025, at the age of 92.
Born in Wellington, New Zealand, to Ven Wei Yu and Paul P.C. Yu, Peter spent his early years living throughout the Pacific Rim, including Sumatra, Borneo, Vancouver, and Honolulu, as his father served as a diplomat for the Nationalist Chinese Government. The family eventually settled in Hawaii after escaping the Communist regime in China.
The family moved to Ithaca, N.Y and Peter graduated from Ithaca High School. Later, he earned a B.A. in chemistry from Cornell University. He went on to attend Cornell University Medical School, completing a pediatric internship at Children’s Hospital in Buffalo, New York, and specialty training in anesthesia at New York Hospital in New York City. He proudly served in the U.S. Army as part of the 43rd MASH Unit in Korea and later at Brooke Army Hospital in San Antonio, Texas.
During a leave of absence, Peter visited Albuquerque, New Mexico, and immediately fell in love with the dry climate—an ideal escape from the humidity he so disliked. After that visit, he determined he would settle in New Mexico to raise his family. He first married Joan, a nurse he met at New York Hospital, and together they enjoyed many happy years in Corrales, NM, before her passing in 1980. Later, Peter married Victoria, who had been widowed as well, with whom he shared 43 loving years.
Peter is survived by his devoted wife, Victoria; his children Kathleen (Mike), Daniel (Mary Etta—deceased), David, Stephen (Samantha), Jonathan, Timothy (Charity), and Elizabeth (Ben); nine cherished grandchildren—Hannah (Jonas) , Joshua (Sarah), Lydia, Jubilee, Judah, Peter, Tabitha, Dylan, and Eleanora; and one great-grandchild, Declan. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Joan; his brothers David and Jimmy; and sister-in-law Celia.
A steadfast Christian, Peter held a deep knowledge of scripture and shared his faith with his children and all who knew him. He drew lifelong inspiration from his college fellowship with InterVarsity Christian Fellowship and lived with the firm assurance of eternal life with his Savior, Jesus Christ.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to the Heights Cumberland Presbyterian Church Mission Fund in Peter’s memory.
Peter’s life was marked by faith, love, service, and devotion to family. His legacy will continue to inspire all who were blessed to know him.
