Peteris (Pete) Andris Abolins, 71, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, died Saturday, September 6, 2025, after a short but courageous fight with glioblastoma (brain cancer). Celebration of Life will be held from 1 - 4 p.m. on Saturday, September 27, 2025, at The Legacy Center at Murdoch-Linwood in Cedar Rapids

Pete was born on July 21, 1954, in Des Moines, Iowa, to Juris and Anna (Ivanenko) Abolins. He graduated from East High School and went on to build a successful career as a self-employed life and health insurance salesman for more than 40 years. Pete was passionate about dancing Argentine Tango, golfing, and traveling. He also loved spending time fishing, and cycling, and being with his sons. He was known for his dynamic, spontaneous, and charismatic personality.

Survivors include his sons, Eric Abolins, whose mother is Melody Spiker, and John Abolins, whose mother is Deb Salat; his life partner of 12 years, Irina Latkova; sisters, Via (Jim) Postma, Velta (Bob) Bucklin, Mary Ann (David) Brown, Tina Abolins, Ingrid Fleming, and Natalie (Jerry) Savage; brother, Dan Abolins; his former wife Terri Hansen; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Juris and Anna Abolins; three brothers, John, George, and Robert Abolins; and sister, Maiga Stevens.
