Pete was born June 8, 1930 in Apeldoorn, The Netherlands, to the late Meindert and Josephine Lodewijk. He passed away on February 17, 2024 after a sudden decline in health. He was a proud husband and father. He is predeceased by his devoted wife, whom he affectionately called "Riet". They met each other through mutual friends during a choir performance of cities in Holland during 1953. Immigrants from the Netherlands in 1957, they settled in Charlotte NC to raise a family. He will be remembered as an entertaining man of quick wit. He was a man of integrity as a formidable figure in the industry of engineering. Engineering was a passion of his which led to inventions of new machinery and finding better ways of utilizing other machines. He enjoyed the rigors of solving high level engineering problems. He also was involved in the choir for many years with Saint Gabriel Catholic Church of Charlotte. He also spent years helping in the "soup kitchen" for the Urban Ministries of Charlotte. Throughout his life, he enjoyed travel, tinkering in his shop, backyard gardening, and cruise excursions. He is survived by his children Miriam (Dan), Ingrid, Michael, Yvonne (Neal). He is also survived by his niece, Jolien van Roosmalen of the Netherlands. He was predeceased by 1 sister, Anny. He is known as "Opa" to 7 grandchildren and "Opa-Pa" to 3 great-grand children. Those who wish to remember Pete in a special way can make gifts in his memory to St Jude Children's Hospital or Charlotte Humane Society. A service of remembrance will be celebrated at a later date.
