Philip (Phil) Guy Marett Senior, 84, passed away September 10, 2022, at his home surrounded by family.
Born on May 20,1938, in Anderson, South Carolina. He was the son of Dan Thompson Marett and Mary Mayben Marett. Mr. Marett was a proud veteran of the United State Marines. He retired from General Electric. He was a member of First Baptist Church where he served as Chairman of the Board of deacons, director of the Baraca Chorus, a Sunday School teacher and a member of the church choir. He was a member of Barnett Lodge 306, and a volunteer fire fighter. He was a member of the Anderson Lions Club, State Secretary and Treasurer, Past District Governor, Council Chair, Founder of Upstate Lions Blind Fishing. As a Lion, he received several local and state awards including a Melvin Jones Fellow, two International Lions Presidents awards, North Carolina VIP Fishing Tournament - Dr. Lacy and Esther Presnell Award, and was inducted as a member of the Lions Hall of Fame.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Chrystine Fant Marett, his children Philip Marett Junior (Lynne), Suzanne Holleman (Bobby), Cecil Marett (Cyndi), Todd Marett (Kelli) and 23 grandchildren. Charlie Holleman (Hillary), Andrew Holleman (Chelsea), Nathan Marett (Courtney), Kaleb Marett, Rachel Marett, Dave Marett, Megan Herron (Cameron), Zach Marett (Greer), Ansley Marett (Jacob), Christopher Villella, Michael Marett, Dustin Marett, Jacky Gorham (Allen), Cody Evesque, Trey Evesque (Rebecca), and 16 great grandchildren. His brother Dan Marett Junior (Teddy), his sister Tweetie Marett Bowman (Jeremy), a sister-in-law Dee Marett, a special cousin Kenneth Mattison (Linda), and numerous nieces and nephews. Mr. Marett was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Don Marett.
His services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, September 13, at First Baptist Church in the Baraca Sunday School classroom with Dr. Josh Hunt officiating. Burial will follow at Old Silver Brook Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Monday at Sullivan-King Mortuary. The family will be at home. Memorials can be made to the First Baptist Church, 307 South Manning Street, Anderson, SC 29624, the Anderson Lions Club, P.O. Box 1524, Anderson, SC 29622, or Hospice of the Upstate, 1835 Rogers Road, Anderson, SC 29621.
