Publish in a newspaper

Phil Standard, of Covington, Georgia, passed away on November 21, 2025, at the age of 82. He was born to Leonard and Iris Standard in Porterdale, Georgia, on January 28, 1943.

Phil is survived by his devoted wife of 55 years, Carol Standard, and their children: Phillip Standard and his wife Amy, Robin Standard, and Melanie Worley and her husband Tracy. He was a proud grandfather to Macy Standard, Molly Standard, Malone Standard, Elaine Owensby, Craig Austin, Mitch Worley, and Torie Stubbs, and a loving great-grandfather to Maddie Owensby, Charlotte Owensby, and Madison Worley. He is also survived by his sisters, June Hilton and Judy Chesnut, whom he loved dearly.

A hardworking and dedicated man, Phil spent 36 years as a dairy farmer, a role he took great pride in. He later worked in maintenance for the Newton County Board of Education and served in Planning and Zoning for the Newton County Board of Commissioners. His work ethic, reliability, and commitment to his community were evident in everything he did.

Phil was a lifelong member of Salem United Methodist Church. He also served as a supervisor for the Upper Ocmulgee Soil and Water Conservation District for more than 50 years. Additionally, he was a member of the Newton County Dairy Association and the Newton County Farm Bureau.

Phil approached life with enthusiasm and a sense of adventure. He loved roller skating, water skiing, and snow skiing, and he never hesitated to join in on the fun. He was known for his kindness, his ability to make people laugh, and his unwavering devotion to his family. To know Phil was to appreciate his steady presence, generous spirit, and warm heart.

Phil will be truly missed by his family, his friends, and the many people whose lives he touched.

A memorial service will be held at 11 o'clock Saturday, December 6, 2025 at Salem United Methodist Church with Reverend Phil DeMore, Reverend Carol Standard and Pastor Todd Hilton officiating. The family will receive friends on Friday, December 5, 2025 from 5:00pm until 7:00pm at J.C. Harwell and Son Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Salem United Methodist Church, 3962 Salem Road, Covington, GA 30016.

J.C. Harwell and Son Funeral Home has been entrusted with these services.
