Dr. Philip Cavett Bird passed away on May 30, 2025, in Norman, Oklahoma, at the age of 80. He was born on February 24,1945, in Honolulu, Hawaii, to John Philip Bird and Wilma Cavett Bird.
Dr. Bird graduated from Classen High School in 1963. He attended OU undergraduate and OU Medical School, finishing in 1971. Following a year of travel, he completed his internship at OU Medical School in 1974, followed by his residency in Internal Medicine in 1976. In 1978, he completed a fellowship in Gastroenterology and opened a private practice in Norman in August of 1978. He was the first practicing Gastroenterologist in Norman.
Philip is survived by his wife, Charla Bird; daughter, Isabella Bird; son, Cavett Bird; daughter, Heather and husband Patrick Eisel; daughter, Hilary Anne and husband Chance Clark; and daughter, Hayden and husband Bryan Green; grandchildren, Aspyn Clark, Ewan and Naya Green, and Drake Eisel; sister, Mary Bird of Chico, California; and nephews, Ben Anderson and Eli Bird.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John Philip Bird and Wilma Cavett Records; sister, Carol Shanks; and brother, Stuart Bird.
In lieu of flowers, to honor his legacy, memorial contributions may be made to the Dr. Philip Bird Scholarship Fund at the Norman Regional Foundation, PO Box 1665, Norman, OK 73070 or online at https://p2p.onecause.com/nrhfoundation/donate. Every year, this scholarship awards funds to medical students based on academic merit and financial need.
