Philip Elwood Childers

PHILIP ELWOOD CHILDERS, 77, of Salisbury, passed away September 19, 2025, at the NC State Veteran's Home in Salisbury.
Born April 12. 1948 in Cabell County, West Virginia, he was the son of the late Daryl Elwood Childers and Martha Powers Childers. He was a Veteran of the United States Navy where he served as a corpsman. He retired from the VA Medical Center in Salisbury. He had worked with the Salisbury-Rowan School System and the NC State Veteran's Home where was an environmental manager. He had also worked as a pharmacy tech supervisor in the VA hospital in Huntington, WV.
He was a member of St. Luke's Episcopal Church. He was also a member of Minerva Masonic Lodge #13 in Barboursville, WV, Scottish Rites and Beni Kedem Temple of Charleston, WV. He enjoyed fishing and hunting.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Matthew S. Childers and brother, Richard A. Childers.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 44 years, Karen Sales Childers; sons, Philip B. Childers (Julie) of Winston-Salem, Nicholas R. Childers (Markie) of Salisbury, John J. Childers (Wendy ) of Florida; uncle, Gary T. Childers of Barboursville, WV; step-sisters, Barbara Sanders (Tom) and Paula Adams both of Barboursville, WV; sister-in-law, Marsha Childers of Huntington, WV; grandchildren, Coleman, Averie, John, Sarah, Philip, Bradford, Briean, Heather; and several great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends 6 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday (September 25) at Summersett Funeral Home.
A graveside service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Friday (September 26) at Salisbury National Cemetery.
