Philip Ferency Obituary

Philip James Ferency, age 79, passed away on February 6, 2026. He was born on July 24, 1946 in Detroit, Michigan, and later made his home in Roscommon, where he spent many years.

Philip proudly served in the US Air force as a fireman. He received the following medals during his time in Vietnam: Good conduct medal, Vietnam Service medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Longevity Service Award, and a Purple Heart. He received an Honorable Discharge on April 17, 1968. In July, 1972 he became a Detroit police officer, where he served for 31 years, dedicating his life to protecting and helping others. He had a diverse and highly successful career with the police department, serving in multiple capacities and divisions. His roles included Academy Training Officer, Traffic Enforcement, and Dive Team member among others. Through each assignment, he demonstrated professionalism, dedication, and a commitment to excellence that left a lasting impact. While working he attended the University of Detroit Mercy where he obtained his Bachelors Degree. He retired as a Lieutenant in July 2003. Outside of his career, he enjoyed working on his Corvette and spending time on his boat on Higgins Lake. When not outside he spent his time building model cars and tanks. He was known as a kind-hearted man who always took care of people, and he will be remembered for his generosity, strength, and the love he had for his family.

Phillip will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew him.

Military honors and burial at Great Lakes National Cemetery, day and time pending.
