A. Franklin

He was the proverbial prince-of-a-guy to quote his father in law. Never at a loss for words and always, always, worth listening to. His knowledge of everything from the arts to the disenfranchised; the good of his country or how to mow a field or manage business etc. etc. was stunning conversation, and if you were uncomfortable at a gathering, he'd be the first one there to help place you at ease. Very bright, very conscientious - like many in the stratosphere of I.Q's, he kept moving and thinking and accomplished legions. I never once heard him advocate his self. My favourite memory was when I was traversing his livingroom while everyone else was outside bbq-ing, and there he was positioned beside his giant speakers playing 'Graceland' for his two year old niece who was bopping to the music. He looked up and said: check this out Ann, this music is primal, see? I was fortunate to be of an understanding of what a premier kind of doctor he was. He could teach a masters class in bedside manner. Philip was one in a million. He got called Home.
