Philip Lauro Obituary

Attorney Philip H. Lauro
1947 - 2024
Longmeadow
Beloved husband, father, and grandfather Philip H. Lauro passed away on Christmas morning at his home in Longmeadow, MA. He was surrounded by his wife, children, and grandchildren. Phil leaves behind his loving wife, Elyse Lauro (Felsenstein), Daughter, Attorney Victoria Lauro Wright, Son, Matthew Philip Lauro, his Son in Law, Timothy J. Wright and Daughter in Law, Attorney Susanna M. Lauro. His four beautiful Grandchildren, John Philip Wright, Sophia Margaret Wright, Timothy Lauro Wright, and Anne-Elyse Margaret Lauro stayed by his side throughout his long journey. Phil was the Patriarch of his family. He lived up to his commitment and pride in all of us.
Phil spent 47 years working in the legal system and providing for his family. Phil was a lifelong passionate advocate for justice. Phil treated all of his clients with respect, love, and friendship. He was always compassionate and understanding of his client's situations. Phil loved being a Lawyer and worked hard to help those of less fortunate means. He made everyone he met feel important and safe.
Phil valued athleticism and higher education for his children and his grandchildren. He was so proud of their accomplishments and always encouraged them. He was always present at all of their athletic games and academic accomplishments. He would sit front row at their games and academic awards beaming proudly. Phil was a proud graduate of the University of Pittsburgh, class of 1969 and graduated from Western New England School of Law. Phil was a devoted attorney and friend to anyone in need.
Phil was meticulously groomed everyday and valued being on time for all his court appearances. He particularly took great pride in his beautiful crown of hair and everyone was always in awe of his well groomed appearance. Phil was truly an "old school" Gentlemen.
Phil grew up in Brooklyn, New York in an Italian American home and met his wife when they were both 17 years old. Together Phil and Elyse faced adversity and eloped in Kentucky because of different religious backgrounds. They resided in Western Massachusetts for over 50 years building a life together with their friends and family. In 1986, they tragically lost their first son, Philip Michael Lauro ll. Their son, Philip's life was cut short at the early age of eight years old. This was a devastating time for the Lauro Family. Phil and his family perpetuated their son's memory by donating to the Storrs Library in Longmeadow, MA, which was renamed the Philip Michael Lauro ll Discovery Room. Phil also lost his twin brother, Michael in 2004, whom he loved very much.
Phil will be terribly missed by his family and friends, but he will live on in all of us in memory for his bravery, tenacity, warmth, loving heart and most of all, his loyal spirit he shared with all who knew him.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Philip Michael Lauro ll Discovery Room, Storrs Library, 693 Longmeadow Street, Longmeadow, MA. 01106.
Calling hours will be on Monday December 30, 2024, from 4pm – 7pm at Forastiere Smith Funeral & Cremation, 220 N Main St., East Longmeadow MA. His Funeral is Tuesday December 31, 2024 at 9:30am at the funeral home, followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary's Parish, 519 Longmeadow St., Longmeadow MA. Burial will be private.
Phil's family will greet you with open arms as we say so long to our exceptional man.

I was just notified of Phil's passing. Phil was a great down -to- earth man and a Western MA legend, who always looked out for young people. He had a sense of humor that made us laugh and think. Phil is sorely missed by everyone he knew.

Sad to hear of his passing. I work at a convenience store in Longmeadow where he would stop in several times a week for his newspaper. He was a very sweet man. He spoke lovingly of his wife who I was lucky to also meet several times. He is missed.

To Elyse, Victoria and family I was so sad to read of Phil´s passing. He was one of the first attorneys I met when I started to practice. I always admired him for his complete devotion to family. He was so proud of his beautiful family. He was always helpful to young attorneys and dedicated to his community endeavors. He was a very friendly and sweet man in spite of the fact that social injustice and prejudice always enraged him even as he tried to do something about it. His beautiful smile and kindly eyes will be missed by many.

To Elyse, Children, and Family,
I was so sad to read about Phil. We were law school classmates and friends for 4 long, night school years, grinding it out with cheer! We had many encounters, some daily, at the Hall of Justice for many years.
I have fond memories visiting at your home when ours kids were crawling on the floor!
Phil was a great guy, the best. He was a weather vane for the legal system, and what might be your next, best move!
Please accept my condolences for your loss of a noble husband and father.

Phil is a legend. One of the most loyal and caring people I ever knew. Phil was all about his family first and loved practicing law. Truly an old school gentleman who had style and class. Phil and Elyse created one of the nicest families I know. I always looked at.Phil as my big brother.who watched out for me. He also taught me how to shoot craps and we shared some great times together. Thank you Phil and God bless you and your family.

Victoria and the Lauro family
So sorry to hear the sad news . I have so many memories from watching him in court as a tireless advocate and highly respected attorney. Spending countless hours talking boxing and local sports But what he enjoyed the most was talking about his kids and his grandchildren. He was a friend to so many . You are in my thoughts and prayers.

Attorney Lauro was a person I only knew as a defendant's lawyer, up until one day. He may have saved my life with one phone call. I saw him in the hallway at court and thanked him for helping a stranger. His response was simple, (I couldn't sit back and do nothing). Thank you again!! R.I.P.
