Philip "Grant" Magner III, age 77, passed away peacefully on August 3, 2024, in Leesburg, Indiana. Born on May 29, 1947, in West Lafayette, Indiana, Grant lived a life full of dedication to his family, work, and community.
A proud alumnus of Purdue University, Grant graduated from Marian High School and then Purdue University Ag School. His loyalty to Purdue and the Boilermakers was evident throughout his life, including his involvement as a past president of the Kosciusko County Purdue Club.
Grant devoted 28 years of his career as a Maintenance Supervisor in food production with the Kroger Company in Cincinnati. After relocating to Warsaw, Indiana, he continued his career at Maple Leaf Farms and various orthopedic companies, culminating his professional journey at Greenmark, John Deere equipment. In retirement, Grant found great joy and fulfillment piloting The Dixie in North Webster and driving the Lake City Bank armored promotional vehicle.
An avid bridge player, Grant spent many happy days and evenings playing the game he loved. His contributions to the community were many, including his roles in the Lakeland Community Concert Association as Membership Secretary and President, and ushering at the Wagon Wheel Theater with his beloved spouse until illness prevented him from continuing.
Grant sang in the choir at Warsaw Evangelical Presbyterian Church and participated in the Community Choir, now known as Classic Arts Community Chorale, showcasing his love for music.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Phil and Evelyn Magner, and his brother-in-law, Kim Clark.
Grant leaves behind a loving family who will cherish his memory: his devoted wife Annette Jay Magner; his son Philip Grant Magner IV (Sara); granddaughters, Sydney and Genevieve; stepchildren, Mary Anne Huntley, Linda Marie Lake, Jessica Dunkel, Nathan Dunkel, and Jordan Dunkel; siblings, David (Sandy), Stephan (Louann), and Marjorie Magner Clark (Kim); as well as six nieces and nephews.
In accordance with his wishes, no calling or public services will be held. A private family celebration of life will take place at a future date.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to Purdue University or the Purdue Glee Club in Grant's memory, honoring his lifelong passion for his alma mater.
