Philip Means Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Bunker Family Funerals & Cremation - University Chapel on Dec. 12, 2025.
Philip Warner Means, age 89, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, passed away on November 28, 2025, in San Tan Valley, Arizona.

Born on July 22, 1936, Phil's life was defined by devotion to family, quiet integrity, and a generous heart.

Phil married his lifelong sweetheart, Joan Pettyjohn Means, on April 16, 1955, in Phoenix, Arizona, and they were later sealed in the Mesa Arizona Temple on April 20, 1961. Side by side, they celebrated 70 years of marriage, building a home filled with love, laughter, and faith, and raising five children.

A faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Phil served wherever he was needed. Over the years he served in the Sunday School presidency, the elders quorum presidency, the ward bishopric, and on the stake high council. He also dedicated many hours to mentoring youth in the Boy Scouts of America, leaving a lasting example of service, leadership, and kindness.

Phil is survived by his wife, Joan; and their children: Linda Helen Miller (Scott Miller), Philip Val Means, Daryl Von Means (James Johnson), Terryl Van Means, and Geoffrey Vern Means (Lindsay Higbee); as well as 49 grandchildren, 64 great-grandchildren, and 10 great-great-grandchildren.
