GUILDERLAND- Philip “Mick” Shropshire, age 71, passed away peacefully at his residence on December 9, 2025.
He was born in Dorchester, Dorset, England, the son of the late Thomas Edward Shropshire and June Mary Shropshire (nee Sargent).
Growing up in England Mick adventured over the land on motorcycles and in the air in engineless gliders. He travelled the seas with the British Merchant Navy and the QEII cruise line which is what brought him to Albany, NY where he met his wife, Cynthia, and they raised their two children, Matthew and Tracy. It was his children who brought him into the fold of the Guilderland Youth Soccer Association where he enjoyed coaching, being the referee coordinator and helped to support them even after his children outgrew the program. Indoctrinated into American culture he became an avid Red Sox fan visiting Fenway Park often and celebrating their 4 Championships with relish.
Mick retired from the Guilderland Post Office in 2021 where he worked as mail carrier and made friends with everyone along his route. With his newfound free time; he traveled with his wife, helped his daughter with her house and granddaughter, and lovingly pestered his son while he played with his grandson. His presence was always a joy and his generosity was unmet. Those he loved will always carry him in spirit on their new travel and adventures.
Mick is survived by his wife Cynthia; children: Matthew (Cheryl) and Tracy (Jim); grandchildren: Brooklynn, Carl and Max; siblings: Margaret, Malcolm, Jean and Anne; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his calling hours on Thursday December 18, 2025 from 4 to 6 p.m. at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 343 New Karner Road, Colonie, NY 12205. All are invited to attend his funeral services following at the funeral home at 6 p.m.
