Mr. Philip Michael Moore, age 76, of Lyons, Georgia, passed away on Sunday, March 15, 2026, at Memorial Health Meadows Hospital in Vidalia, Georgia, following an extended illness.
He was born in Americus, Georgia, on May 4, 1949, to the late Robert Smith Moore and Velma Elizabeth Johnson Moore.
Philip was a 1967 graduate of Plains High School and went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in chemistry from Georgia Southwestern College. He began his professional career as a teacher at Smithville Academy before spending more than a decade working on the family farm in Americus. Following the death of his father, Philip and his family relocated to Vidalia, where he began his lifelong career with Southern Company in the chemistry department. He dedicated many years of service there before retiring in 2016.
Philip enjoyed fishing, the Braves, and his beloved beagles, but nothing meant more to him than his family. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Vidalia, where he previously served as a deacon.
He is survived by his two sons: Matthew Brock Moore and Michael Chandler Moore, both of Lyons; his only daughter, Amanda Moore Lariscey and her husband Adam, of Lyons; his sister, Mary Ann Dews and her husband Gene of Headland, Alabama; his brother Glenn David Moore,of Butler, Georgia; and his two grandchildren: Hadleigh Elizabeth Lariscey and Benjamin Wyatt Lariscey, both of Lyons. He is also survived by three nephews: David Dews and his wife Leigh of Columbia, Kentucky, Chip Dews and his wife Lauren, and Blake Dews, both of Birmingham, Alabama.
In addition to his parents, Philip was preceded in death by his brothers, Robert “Bobby” Smith Moore, Jr., and Ervin “Neil” Moore, and by his sister, Joyce Jacquelyn Moore.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, March 18, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at Hancock Funeral Home in Americus, Georgia, with the family receiving friends beginning at 1:00 p.m. A graveside service will follow at Shiloh Baptist Church. A memorial service will be held at a later date at Ron V. Hall Funeral Home in Vidalia, Georgia, for friends of the family.
