Philip Richard Murphy, affectionately known as "Murph," was born on April 24, 1964, in Raleigh, North Carolina. His journey through life came to a close on June 26, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of warmth and joy that embraced all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Beloved by many, Murph possessed an engaging spirit that resonated deeply within his family and friends. He is survived by his cherished wife, Norma Murphy, and proudly leaves behind his daughter, Hannah Taylor, and son-in-law, Alvin Taylor. His step-son, Russ Scott, also carries forth his memory. Murph's familial bonds extended with grace through his sisters, Deborah Murphy, and Lisa Martin, along with her husband, Jeff Martin, and his brothers, Michael Murphy and his wife, Jan, and David Murphy and his wife, Donna. He was the adored grandfather to Emma and Alexa Scott, and he held a special place for his nieces Madison and Ashley Martin, as well as his nephews, Matt Murphy and his wife, Barbara, and Jimmy Murphy.
A man of many passions, Murph found joy in cooking, often delighting friends and family alike with succulent ribs grilled by the poolside, where laughter and love flourished under the sun. His affinity for the water was reflected in his love for swimming and fishing, where he found tranquility and contentment. A devoted fan of the UNC Tarheels, he passionately supported the team he loved.
Murph's presence was as comforting as it was vibrant, making a lasting impact on those fortunate enough to encounter him. His infectious personality shined brightly, capturing hearts with an ease that made it so that everyone loved him.
The memorial service honoring his life will be held on July 10, 2025, starting at 3:00 PM and concluding at 4:00 PM at Sullivan's Highland Funeral Service Chapel in Fayetteville, North Carolina. The chapel, located at 610 Ramsey Street, will serve as a space for reflection and remembrance, where the community can gather to celebrate the indelible mark Murph left on their lives.
