Philip “Phil” Russell Mentzer, age 66, of Mechanicsburg, died on Saturday, March 16, 2024.  Phil was born on Friday, May 17, 1957, in Harrisburg to Philip Edward Mentzer and the late Dorothy Lorraine (Reeves) Mentzer.

Phil’s survivors include his wife of 45 years, Jo Ann (Sheibley) Mentzer; his two daughters: Julia Mentzer-Yarlett and her husband, Dennis, of Mechanicsburg, PA, Heather (Mentzer) Kumler and her husband, Zack, of Mechanicsburg, PA; his three granddaughters: Jayden Yarlett, Kenzie Yarlett, Isabella Kumler; his father, Philip Edward Mentzer; his three siblings: James Mentzer and his wife, Kim, Michaelle Trolinger, Robert Mentzer; his nine nieces and nephews; and his 5 grand-nieces and nephews.

Phil graduated from Cumberland Valley High School as part of the class of 1975.  He was an active member and served as a Board Member for both the Mechanicsburg Sportsmen's Assocation and  PA State Archery Association.  Phil was the owner/operator of Phil Mentzer + Son Inc in Mechanicsburg.  He was an avid hunter, fisherman, and outdoorsman.  Phil lived for a game of cards and always seemed to win. He was definitely a card shark.  Phil spent endless hours at archery events, softball practices, games, and tournaments, and at family gatherings.  His eyes always lit up when he saw any of his three beloved granddaughters.  Phil made many memories with them with indoor snowball fights and wiffleball games in the backyard.  He will be dearly missed by those who were fortunate enough to have known him.

All are welcome to join Phil’s family at his gathering and greeting on Monday, March 25, 2024, from 9:30 a.m. until time of service at 11:00 a.m. at Buhrig Funeral & Cremation, 37 East Main Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055; with his brother-in-law, Everett Theodore “Ted” Adams officiating.   Phil’s family invites everyone to join them for a time of food and fellowship at Buhrig’s Gathering Place (next to the funeral home) immediately following the service.  Burial will follow the reception in Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Mechanicsburg.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to: Mechanicsburg Sportsmen's Association - 493 Sample Bridge Road, Mechanicsburg, PA 17025 or to the Cancer Society.
