Philip John Stackable, age 56, of Fort Worth, TX passed away September 17, 2024 at Medical City Hospital in North Richland Hills, TX. Cremation will take place with memorial service and burial scheduled for later.

Philip, the youngest of seven children, was born in Jackson, MI on May 5, 1968, the son of Glenna Louise (Clark) Stackable and William Robert Stackable MD. In 1970, the family (with the 5 youngest children) moved to Mt. Vernon, IL where Phil attended school through 9th grade. He moved to Midland, MI after his mother’s passing and graduated in 1987 from Dow High School. After graduation he attended several universities starting with Michigan State University in East Lansing, MI; Lawrence Technological University in Southfield, MI; and graduated from the University of Houston in Houston, TX with a bachelor’s degree in computer science. He worked for AIM Management and American Express in Houston, TX, and Austin Industrial, Inc. in Houston and Dallas-Ft. Worth, TX as a programmer/analyst.

Phil had a lifelong love of the family cottage at Higgins Lake, MI where he summered with his mother and siblings. As a youngster he spent hours playing in the cold lake and wouldn’t get out even though he was shivering with purple lips. When older, he enjoyed water-skiing, boating, and fishing. At the lake during Christmas break, it was sledding, ice skating, snow fort building, and snowmobiling if his older brothers would let him drive it. In Mt. Vernon, he was loved by many and often spent time at the neighbor’s house. Phil always loved a good surprise, especially for his birthday, such as a hot air balloon ride or a Colorado dude ranch trip.

Phil was very proud of his son Sam, an accomplished student, athlete and musician. Sam spent this past summer touring the US with Vanguard Music and Performing Arts. Phil was a “Grill Master” for Sam’s Scout camp outs where they both survived the unbearable Texas heat. Phil supported Sam through T-ball, youth baseball, soccer, and tennis. Phil’s favorite was baseball and frequently assisted the coaches and the other kids on the team. With Phil’s encouragement, Sam overcame his fear of catching to become “The Hulk”, not letting any baseball get by him. “Hulk’s Dad” was a nickname Phil proudly wore on his team shirt.

Phil is survived by his son Sam Stackable and Sam’s mother Natalie Bruce. He is also survived by his brothers: Stephen (Mary Ann) of Midland, MI; David (Elaine) of Beaverton, OR; Michael (Mary Lee) of Kemah, TX; Gregory of League City, TX; his sister Karen (Edward) Self of The Woodlands, TX; sister-in-law Sandy Elias Stackable of Marlboro, NJ. He also leaves many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Phil was preceded in death by his mother, father, and brother Matthew Thomas Stackable (2024).
