Philip Don Wood, age 68, passed from this life on June 25, 2025. He has gone to his
eternal home to be with God after a life filled with faith, family, and purpose.
Phil Wood was born on January 29, 1957 in Lubbock, Texas to Joe and Marita McKnight
Wood. Phil was a devoted husband, loving father, and proud grandfather. He was a faithful member of the Oakdale Church of Christ. He was an engineer who could fix almost anything and could carry on an interesting and lively conversation on just about any subject with anyone. Before he was an engineer, he was a member of a wonderful family of Woods and McKnights who blessed his life and whom he, in turn, blessed.
Phil encountered a variety of cultures as a boy growing up in west Texas, Illinois,
Kentucky, and finally Oklahoma. He graduated from Duncan High School in 1975. After
graduation, he attended Oklahoma Christian College then went on to earn his bachelor's degree in civil engineering at Oklahoma State University. He also earned his master's degree in geotechnical engineering at OSU.
Phil and Diana's love story began in Stillwater, Oklahoma in 1977. He met Diana
Sullivan in the University Center at the Stillwater Church of Christ. They married on May 24, 1980 then honeymooned in Cancun, Mexico. They made their first home in married student housing at OSU. Phil began his engineering career in Stillwater, Oklahoma, then he and Diana experienced interesting new people and places as Phil's career took them from Stillwater to St. Louis, Missouri with subsequent stops in Tulsa, Oklahoma, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and in Dallas and Houston, Texas. The last 25 years of Phil's career were spent at Terracon Consultants where he managed the large and very successful Oklahoma City office.
Phil was a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers, American Council of
Engineering Companies, OSU Veterinary Medicine Authority, and Society for Marketing
Professional Services. He served on the Oklahoma City Chamber Board of Advisors and was serving as a board member for Lilyfield.
Recently retired from a career marked by dedication and integrity, Phil embraced this
new chapter of life with passion and energy. Whether he was riding horseback through shady trails, tending to their horses and gardens and ponds under an Oklahoma sky, or soaring through that sky as a pilot-in-training, he delighted in the beauty and adventure of God's creation. Phil loved the great outdoors: mountains, oceans, wildlife, forests, rivers, gardens, sunrises, and sunsets. Some of his favorite activities (snow skiing, waterskiing, camping, and horseback riding) happened outside.
Phil's interest in travel and his curiosity about the world led him and Diana to new places
and experiences. He traveled throughout the United States and around the world, yet his greatest joy was found close to home-in the laughter of children, the embrace of his family, and quiet moments spent in prayer and worship.
Phil loved music and singing. He was a self-taught guitar player. He played trumpet in
his junior high band, participated in several choruses and singing groups, and especially enjoyed joining others in singing hymns of praise to God.
A man of deep and unwavering faith, Phil served a multitude of people in many different
settings with humility and love. He modeled a life of service, always ready to lend a hand, offer a word of encouragement, sit and visit, or pray. He loved Jesus, and it showed in everything he did. Phil served as an elder for Oakdale Church of Christ and prior to that as an elder for Memorial Road Church of Christ.
To know Phil Wood was to witness a rare and beautiful blend of strength, kindness,
humor, and humility. He had a knack for storytelling, and he found joy in life's simple pleasures. Kids and babies were drawn to Phil, and he loved them. Children could innately sense that he had their best interests at heart and was someone they could trust.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Diana Sullivan Wood, with whom he shared 45
beautiful years of marriage; his children and their spouses, Candice and Jason Pitts, Brandon Wood, and Sean and Emily Wood; and his cherished grandson, Leonard (Leo) Thomas Wood, who brought him endless joy. He is also survived by his mother, Marita Wood-Barnett; siblings Steve (and Connie) Wood, Pam (and Cary) Branscum, and Pat Wood; mother-in-law, Marilyn Sullivan; and numerous other family members. Phil was predeceased by his father, Joe Wood, and his father-in-law, Leonard Sullivan.
Though our hearts are heavy, we rejoice knowing that Phil is being welcomed into eternal life with the words, "Well done, good and faithful servant." Those who would like to honor Phil's legacy of service might consider a donation to Lilyfield.

I was privileged to work with Phil at Terracon where he was a treasure, what a kind supportive and positive person. `You will know them by their fruits“----this surely applied to Phil. We can look at his life and see what his values were. All those who knew Phil are better for it. Deepest condolences to his family and friends.
