Philip Zachman Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Cargain Funeral Homes Inc. - Carmel on Mar. 30, 2026.
Philip E. Zachman, age 94, of Carmel, New York, passed away peacefully on March 28, 2026, in Carmel, New York.

Born on October 3, 1931, in the Bronx, New York, he was the son of the late Gustave and Matilda (Melosh) Zachman. After graduating from high school, he went on to complete welding school, building a foundation for a lifetime marked by hard work, skill, and perseverance.

Philip proudly served his country in the United States Army, an experience that reflected his sense of duty and commitment to something greater than himself. Following his military service, he worked at Century Coating (leather tanning) in Queens, NY and then went on to devote many years of service as a foreman with A.S.P.C.A. Animal Control.

Above all else, Philip cherished his family. His wife, Irene (Tobin) Zachman, predeceased him in 2011 and he carried her memory with him throughout the remainder of his life. He was also predeceased by his brothers, Robert and Donald Zachman. He is survived by his sons, Thomas W. Zachman and Michael P. Zachman and his wife, Antonnette, who will continue to honor his memory through the values he instilled in them. His family was the center of his world, and he found his greatest joy in the bonds he shared with those closest to him.

Philip will be remembered as a hardworking, devoted and steadfast man whose life reflected integrity and quiet strength. Those who knew Philip will remember his dependable nature and his devotion to his family. His legacy lives on in the memories shared by his loved ones and in the example he set through a life of service, hard work and unwavering commitment.

He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered always.

Visitation will be held from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Monday, April 6, 2026 at Cargain Funeral Home, 10 Fowler Avenue, Carmel, NY.

A Mass of Christian Burial to honor and celebrate Philip's life will take place at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 7, 2026 at St. James the Apostle Church, 14 Gleneida Avenue, Carmel, NY.

Following the Mass, Philip will be escorted to his final resting place alongside his beloved wife, Irene, at Rose Hills Memorial Park, 100 Mill Street, Putnam Valley, NY.

There will be a U.S. Army Honor Guard Ceremony at the cemetery.
