Phillip Breedlove Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Barnes-Friederich & Pope Funeral Home - Midwest City on Jan. 7, 2026.
On Saturday, January 3, 2026, Phillip David Breedlove, loving Husband, Father, Brother, and Uncle, passed away at home, at age 83.
Phillip was born on September 29, 1942 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma to Melvin S. Breedlove and Alcie Breedlove (Cooper), graduated with the Class of 1960 from Capitol Hill High School in Oklahoma City, and served in the United States Army from 1962 – 1965. He married Nelda Kay Breedlove (Henson) on August 2, 1969 and together raised one daughter, Felicia.
He had worked at Sooner Rose Elementary as a custodian and all the kids called him grandpa. They would give him drawings, and he would come home and post them on the refrigerator. He loved visiting with people so after he retired, he'd spend his days getting out and about just to say hi whether that was going to the bank or chatting with someone in the aisle at the grocery store. When Paul and Nelda were younger, they would go out dancing with his sister-in-law and brother-in-law. He always said he didn't feel his age and enjoyed dancing. He also worked at St. Anthony hospital as a floor tech/custodian for a few years before Nelda passed. He worked in the surgery department most of that time. You couldn't go anywhere with him without him running into someone he knew, besides the fact that he had to stop and talk to every baby that crossed his path and was always giving random people compliments whether that was a nice shirt or pretty eyes, he always found something nice to say. He also loved animals although he never got another dog after his wife's dog passed away, but he loved on his grand dogs whenever he had a chance.
Phillip was known for his life-long love of OU sports and was a loyal fan. He also loved dancing and he never met a stranger. Being a people person, he never missed an opportunity to say hello and strike up a conversation. He worked hard, and went above and beyond for the most important thing to him, his family. Phillip kept every photo, card, graduation announcement and birth announcement that was ever sent to him. Everyone that knew him loved him, because he had a heart of gold. He was always there to help if needed, even if it was just to hold the door for someone. He was so loved, and will be missed tremendously.
Phillip was preceded in death by his wife Nelda, his father Melvin, his mother Alcie, and his sisters Camille, Lois, Gayle, Doryse, and Vernoise. He is survived by his daughter Felicia, son-in-law Anthony, and three sisters; Rosella, Cheryl, and Lynne, as well as several cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Services will be rendered by Barnes Friederich & Pope Funeral Home, 305 S Sooner Rd, Midwest City, OK 73110. Visitation will be Friday, January 9, 2026 from 12:00pm – 8:00pm. A Funeral Service will be held at 2:00pm, Saturday, January 10, 2026, in the Ford Chapel. Phillip's final resting place will be Arlington Memory Gardens, in Midwest City, Oklahoma.
