Phillip "Pete" E. Burgess, age 80, of Weidman, MI, passed away on October 17, 2025. He was born on September 23, 1945, in Lansing, MI, to Philo and Marjory (Lyons) Burgess.

Pete worked as a groundskeeper at The Pines golf course, where he met Elaine Brooks. After Elaine's husband's death, she and Pete were lifelong companions until her death on January 31, 2018. Pete's favorite pastimes were playing bingo, cards with the guys, and slots and cards at the casino. He also loved taking trips with Elaine. Pete loved his extended family. Elaine's kids and grandkids called him "Papa Pete." He taught all of Elaine's grandkids to drive, took them to the fair, and went on day trips, which always included lunch and ice cream. Pete's nieces and nephews fondly remember many card games with him and having lunch at Bob Evans, where he loved his potato soup. During the last part of his life, Pete was greatly assisted by Mike and Jeanette Pung, for which the families are very grateful.

Pete is survived by many grandkids, great grandkids, and great great grandkids from his extended family, along with several nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Philo and Marjory Burgess, his sister Sandy Burgess, and his sister Margie Pollok.

The family will be gathering for a private celebration of Pete's life and also making a donation to the Weidman VFW.
