Today we celebrate the life of Phillip Alexander Compton. He was born February 10, 1949, at University Hospital in Cleveland, Ohio to the union of Albert Louis Compton and Lula Mae Alexander- Compton who preceded him in death. His brothers Albert Louis Compton Jr. and Ronald Preston Compton also preceded him in death.
Phillip attended Glenville and John F. Kennedy High School. He went on to serve his country with honor in the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam War as an infantryman from 1967 to 1970. For his service, he received the National Defense Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, and Vietnam Campaign Medal, and he was honorably discharged with the rank of Sergeant.
Phillip worked for CMHA as a maintenance technician, where he was known for his dedication and strong work ethic.Phillip continued his education, earning an Associate of Science Degree from Tri-C Community College and a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Ursuline College.
At a young age, Phillip dedicated his life to Christ and became a faithful member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church, where he remained active in his faith throughout his life.
On September 11, 1971, Phillip married the love of his, Laurelynn Sandra Compton, in Cleveland, Ohio, at Advent Lutheran Church. They first met each other in high school as friends. However, years later they reconnected through his cousin and then shared 54 devoted years of marriage.
Phillip had a deep love for sports, especially baseball, football, track, and boxing. He boxed semi-professionally in high school and during his time in the Marines. He also played semi-pro football for the Academs. Beyond sports, he found joy in serving others. He gave his time volunteering, teaching Sunday school, tutoring children, and supporting veterans in his community. Above all, he was a devoted family man whose greatest pride was caring for those he loved.
Phillip Alexander Compton departed this life on February 21, 2026 with his loved ones surrounding him. He leaves to cherish his memory his beloved wife, Laurelynn Sandra Compton; his children Elaine "Nikki" Compton, Phillip André Compton (Trudy), Kristen Compton, and Kellee Compton; his cherished grandchildren Aaron Owens, Karmin Smith, Julianna Johnson, Kacey Compton, Jace Compton, and Ty Compton.
