A rosary, led by the Men’s Rosary Group, will be prayed at 6:00 pm on Wednesday.
A lifelong resident of New Iberia, Phillip “Soupy” Dupuis was born on August 7, 1961, to the late Fred and Nell Broussard Dupuis. He was a 1979 graduate of NISH, then obtained a bachelor’s degree in engineering from USL (now UL), having graduated with honors.
Strong in his faith, Soupy prayed the rosary daily, and was a longtime member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church, where he and Nancy were married in 1990.
Soupy was a man of many talents, known for his love of woodworking and restoration. The care he poured into his projects was a reflection of his character – meticulous, thoughtful, and infused with love.
Soupy had a passion for collecting vintage musical instruments. His heart resonated with the soulful sounds of live music, and he had a profound appreciation and affection for the musicians who played it.
Above all else, Soupy adored his grandchildren, who were the lights of his life. He cherished time spent with his family, cooking and sharing meals with them. He relished time spent around the table, where laughter and stories flowed freely. His nurturing spirit and unwavering support made him a beloved figure in their lives. He will be deeply missed.
Mr. Dupuis is survived by his loving wife of 35 years, Nancy Frederick Dupuis; son, Julien Dupuis; stepson, Chance Gonzales (Jenni); grandchildren, Jameson and Jolie Grace Dupuis; and brother, Ricky Dupuis.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brother, Danny “Dr. Dup” Dupuis; sisters-in-law, Patrice Owens Dupuis and Cindia Evans Dupuis; mother-in-law, Evelyn Romero Frederick; and brother-in-law, Lloyd Frederick.
Soupy leaves behind a world more colorful than he found it. He will remain in our hearts forever. May he rest in peace.
