Phillip Guinn Obituary

Phillip Lane Guinn

June 16, 2025

Phillip Lane Guinn, a loving husband and father, went to be with the Lord on Monday, June 16, 2025, at the age of 83. Phil was born and raised in Flag Pond, TN by the late Thomas Floyd and Mary Lee (Loyd) Guinn. He grew up a member of Clear Branch Baptist Church and was baptized at Calvary Baptist Church by Dr. Robert Gray. He was a graduate of Unicoi County high School and East Tennessee State University. He was a member of First Christian Church in Johnson City. Phil was a proud veteran of the United States Army, having served as an MP in the 503rd at Fort Bragg, NC from 1966-1968. Phil spent over 40 years working in various positions, including Plant Superintendent, at Nuclear Fuel Services in Erwin. He retired from NFS in 2003 but continued to work as a contractor over the years. Phil was a people person and never knew a stranger. As a young man, he was an outdoorsman, enjoying hunting and fishing. In later life, he enjoyed traveling with his family all over the US. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Leon Rhodes and niece, Leslie Shannon Guinn.

Phillip has left behind to cherish his memory: his wife of 63 years, Carolyn Peoples Guinn; daughter, Melanie Guinn Poling (Dean); sister, Janice Rhodes; brothers: Doug Guinn (Jan) and Randy Guinn (Karen); as well as several nieces and nephews.

The family respectfully requests the honor of your presence as we offer tribute and remember the life of Phillip Lane Guinn in a graveside committal service with military honors to be held at 3:00 pm on Friday, June 27, 2025, in Mountain Home National Cemetery. Dr. Darrell Paulk will officiate. A visitation period to share memories and offer support to the family will be held from 12:00 pm until 2:00 pm on Friday, June 27, 2025 in the chapel at Valley Funeral Home. Those attending the committal service should meet at Mountain Home National Cemetery by 2:50 pm on Friday for the service.

Memorial contributions may be sent to the Unicoi County Animal Shelter, PO Box 223, Erwin, TN 37650
