Phillip Hal “Phil” Sloan, age 76, of Calhoun, passed away Sunday, August 11th at his home.
Phil was born on January 7, 1948, in Gordon County. Son of the late Junior Sloan and Snippy Nesbitt Sloan. He was a 1966 graduate of Calhoun High School. Phil was a Vietnam veteran serving with the 25th Infantry and was the recipient of the Bronze Star and the Combat Engineer Badge. Phil was a master carpenter and skilled craftsman and loved spending time outdoors fishing. He was a member of the Resaca Masonic Lodge #724 and the Yaarab Shrine Temple. He along with his wife Judy were owners and operators of DiPrima’s Shoes.
Besides his parents, Phil was preceded in death by his sister, Tara Sloan.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Judy DiPrima Sloan, one son, Brett Sloan, and his wife Dana, his daughter, Robin Proffitt, and her husband Brian. Grandchildren, Hal Sloan, Sloan Proffitt, and Sofia Proffitt. One brother, Joe Sloan and his wife Karen, sisters, Pat White and her husband Tommy, Gail Dickinson, and Jan Peeples and her husband Doug. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be conducted Thursday August 15th, at 4pm from the chapel of Thomas Funeral Home with Doug Peeples officiating. Burial will follow in Fain Cemetery with military honors afforded by the United States Army Honor Guard.
The family will receive friends on Thursday from 2 until 4 pm prior to the funeral.
