PHILLIP L. HALL, JR., beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away June 12, 2025, at the age of 91. Born on November 2, 1933, in Monetta, South
Carolina, Phillip was the fourth of eight children and first son born to Phillip and Ruth Hall.

Growing up during the final years of the Great Depression, Phillip learned early the value of perseverance and hard work. He left the Batesburg-Leesville area as a young man to
pursue greater opportunities in New York. There, he found a welcoming community among fellow Southerners who had made Hempstead, NY, a new home away from "down home."

Phillip served his country honorably in the United States Army following the Korean War. After his discharge, he returned to Hempstead, where he transferred his
church membership from Emmanuel Baptist Church in Elmont to Union Baptist Church. It was there that he became a faithful member of the Excelsior and Senior Choirs – and where he met the love of his life, Carrie Jennings. After a loving courtship, they were married on July 16, 1960. The young couple settled and raised their two children in Roosevelt, New York. Phillip instilled in his family the importance of education and exposed them to a lifelong love and appreciation for music.

Phillip was employed at Meadowbrook Hospital (later Nassau County Medical Center), where he rose through the ranks to become Manager of the X-ray Department. While working full-time, he earned degrees from Nassau Community College and Empire State College. He retired proudly on his "other birthday," October 31, 1988.

Upon retirement, Phillip and Carrie relocated to Camden, South Carolina, where they joined Mount Moriah Baptist Church. Never one to sit idle, Phillip organized the Brothers of Harmony, a male chorus that further enriched worship and fellowship. He also volunteered in the church soup kitchen delivering meals to the sick and shut in. At home, he became an avid gardener, growing sweet potatoes, tomatoes, and blueberries in abundance. In February 2025, he and Carrie moved to Houston to be closer to family.

Phillip now joins a joyous reunion in eternity with his parents, Phillip and Ruth Hall; sisters, Wilmer Hall, Edith Hall and Helen Bugg (James Luther); brothers, Bruce Edward (Katie), James Robert Hall, and Gene Hall (Juliet); his beloved in-laws, Thomas and Lillie Mae Jennings; brothers-in-law, Willie, James (Carol) and Randall Jennings; and sisters-in-law, Catherine Terrell and Doris Amar (James); special in-law, Robert Kirby, along with many cherished aunts, uncles, and cousins.

He is deeply mourned by his devoted wife of 65 years, Carrie Hall; his daughter, Phyllis Kirby; son in-law, Benny Kirby; son, Phillip Derrick Hall; granddaughters, Valerie Kirby and Traci Kirby Brown (Joshua); his sister, Cora Elizabeth Smith; sisters-in-law, Betty Jennings and Mary Hall and special in law, Sara Kirby. He is also lovingly remembered by a host of nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
