Phillip Scallate Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Anderson Funeral Home and Crematory on Dec. 1, 2025.
Phillip F Scallate, III went home to be with his Lord and Savior on November 30, 2025 at 6 PM, surrounded by the love of his family. He was born on October 31, 1953 in Chicago IL, and lived a life marked by faith, perseverance, and a deep desire for others to know Christ as he did.

In 1977, after a season of struggle and personal battles, Phil accepted Jesus Christ as his savior, a decision that would define the rest of his life. His salvation led him to attend a Bible institute in Beaufort, South Carolina, where he met the love of his life, Marianne Dickinson. The two married and faithfully walked together for 35 years, building a home centered on Christ, scripture and family. God blessed them with three children , twin boys, Phillip Joshua and Jacob Walker born in 1991 and a daughter, Joanna Katherine born in 1993.

Phil worked tirelessly to provide for his family, holding a variety of roles that reflected both his creativity and diligence. He honed his woodworking skills at Environments in Beaufort, operated his own business, Dun-Rite Painting, and later enjoyed a fulfilling career at Andrew's Engineering as an AutoCAD technician before retiring. Yet even above his work, his greatest mission was spiritual. Phil lived and breathed the gospel, whether to a stranger, a friend or his own children, he shared the Word of God with sincerity, passion, and an unwavering conviction that salvation was the most important gift one could receive.

In 1997, following what he believed was the Lord's calling, Phil led the Scallate family to sell their possessions and serve as missionaries in Papua New Guinea. Their time there, though shorter than planned, remained one of the most faith shaping and memorable chapters of their lives.

Phil's later years were filled with joy as he embraced the role of "Papa". He cherished time with his grandchildren, Scarlet Rose, Jacob Walker and Giovanni Phillip, telling imaginative stories crafted just for them, rich with characters that mirrored their personalities and curiosities. These moments brought comfort to a heart that carried the losses of his beloved son Jacob Walker and granddaughter Gabriella Rose. His grandchildren became a light to him as he was to them.

Phil will be remembered for his warm humor, his storytelling, his unwavering belief in the promises of Scripture, and the way he could open the Bible and make its truths come alive. His legacy is not only in the work of his hands, but in the souls he touched, the faith he lived, and the eternal hope he boldly proclaimed.

As we mourn his passing, we also rejoice. We celebrate the life God gave him, the memories we were blessed to share, and the assurance that one day, as Scripture says, we will be caught up together in the clouds. This is our comfort and our blessed hope.

Phil is survived by his devoted wife, Marianne; his son, Phillip Joshua Scallate; his daughters Joanna K Scallate, Jessica Castle, and Jennifer Edburg; his beloved grandchildren, Scarlet Rose, Jacob Walker, Giovanni Phillip and Zachary Edburg. He is preceded in death by his mother, Rosie Fregin; his sister, Linda Donohue; his son, Jacob Scallate; and his granddaughter, Gabriella Rose. While our hearts ache in his absence, we find peace in knowing his race is finished and his faith made sight. We hold fast to the blessed hope that, as Scripture promises, we will one day be reunited in glory.

Funeral services will be held on December 8th, 2025, at 1pm at Calvary Baptist Church, where we will gather to honor his life, remember his testimony, and rejoice in the eternal home he has entered.
