Phillip Snyder Obituary

Spruce Pine - Phillip Jerry Snyder, age 97, of Jack Sullins Road in Spruce Pine, passed away Sunday, Dec. 14, 2025, at his home surrounded by his family.
Born on June 7, 1928, in Mitchell County, he was the oldest and the last of the late Aaron and Leila Buchanan Snyder's children. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Lucy Peters Snyder, and his second wife, Faye Snyder. Also preceding him in death were his brothers, Howard, Charlie and Joe Snyder; his sisters, Ruth Buchanan and Gennie Lee Roberson; his son-in-law, Quentin Buchanan; his great-granddaughter, Skylar Buchanan; and his grand-sons-in-law, Erette Bobbit and Alan Bagwell.
Snyder was a graduate of Harris High School. After graduation he joined the U.S. Army Air Forces. After serving for three years, he attended Clemson College. Afterwards he returned home and began working in the mica program. Snyder retired from Henredon Furniture following 25 years of service. He enjoyed watching football and was an avid Clemson Tigers fan, as well as a fan of the Carolina Tar Heels. He loved his family and enjoyed going on picnics and walks with them. He also enjoyed working in his garden. His greatest enjoyment was spending time with his family. He loved attending his children's, grandchildren's, and great-grandchildren's sporting events.
Snyder was a member of Pine Branch Baptist Church and had attended Bear Creek Baptist Church until his health made him unable to go.
Left to cherish his memories are his wife, Joann Snyder of the home; his daughters, Janet Buchanan, Cathy Hall and husband Danny, and Penny Winchester and husband Tommy, all of Spruce Pine; his sons, Phillip Jerry Snyder Jr. and wife Pam, and Charlie Snyder and wife Jamie, all of Spruce Pine; his stepchildren, Scott Thomas (and wife Pat) and Darren and Stacy Buchanan of Spruce Pine; 14 grandchildren, 40 great-grandchildren, (with three on the way); two great-great-grandchildren; two step-grandsons; two step great-grandsons; and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral for Phillip Snyder was held on Wednesday, Dec. 17, 2025, at 3 p.m. at Pine Branch Baptist Church with the Revs. Bruce Cannon and Brent Snyder officiating. The family received friends on Wednesday, Dec. 17, 2025, at Pine Branch Baptist Church from 1 p.m. until 3 p.m. Interment was in Pine Branch Baptist Church Cemetery. Graveside rites were provided by Sgt. E.L. Randolph of Chapter 57 D.A.V.
The family would like to extend a "special thank you" to Hospice and Palliative Care of the Blue Ridge for their care of Phillip during his illness.
