Phillip Irvin Thomas, 80, one day shy of his 81st birthday, of Louisville, passed away on February 16th at Eastern Star Home from complications from a fall and frontotemporal dementia.
He was born on February 17th, 1942, in Waverly, KY to the late Theodore and Araminta Thomas of Henderson, KY. He spent his career as a laicized priest in the Owensboro Diocese, a social worker, and retired as a pharmaceutical representative. He was dedicated to enriching others' lives through his good deeds, selfless and caring nature and volunteering. He loved his family and friends passionately. He was an intellectual with four master's degrees to go along with a zeal for music, reading, making others laugh and having fun.
He is preceded in death by three brothers, Raymond, James Bernard (JB), and Donald Thomas; and two sisters, Virginia Knight and Ursula Metzger.
He is survived by his loving wife of 46 years Harriet Thomas; one daughter, Suzanne Chami (Aziz); one son, Aaron Thomas; and two granddaughters; Catherine and Julia Chami; one sister, Sr. Dorothy Thomas, SCN; and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews he dearly loved.
His Funeral Mass will be at 10 AM on Tuesday, February 21 at St. Agnes Church on Newburg Road. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery. Visitation is from 2-8 PM on Monday, February 20 at Ratterman & Sons Funeral Home, 3800 Bardstown Road.
The family ask that in lieu of flowers expressions of sympathy be made to the Frontotemporal Dementia (FTD) Association or charity of choice.

Not sure it was my first memory of Phillip, but when I remember Phil as our "prefect", I remember him as a mentor and fine example of reflecting Christ to me as an impressionable teenager! He was firm, but kind, fair & humorous!
