Phillip Gary Wright, “Poppie”, 77, of Blountville, TN, passed away on Saturday, June 8, 2024, at Holston Valley Medical Center in Kingsport, TN. He was born on April 12, 1947, to the late Orbin Leo Wright and Reva Louise Wright, in Wise, VA. After working 22 years at Sperry, Gary began working in construction with Vannoy Construction and Baker Construction until his retirement.
In addition to his parents, Gary was preceded in death by his son, Jason Tate Wright; brother, Robert Wright and nephew, Robert L. Wright.
Gary is survived by his wife, Wanda; son, Gary of Minden, NV; daughter, Rachael Stiltner (Brandon) of Bluff City, TN; stepchildren, Creg Baird (Cheryl) and Jeff Hundley; grandchildren, Logan and Leilah Stiltner; step grandchildren, Coty (Jalta), Corey, Austin and Kurtis; step great-grandchildren; Zaden, Levi, Skyler and Corban, all of whom thought he was the best Papaw ever.
A visitation will be held from 11:00am – 12:00pm on Wednesday, June 12, 2024, in the chapel of Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, 2630 Highway 75, Blountville, TN. The funeral service will be conducted at 12:00pm officiated by Pastor Tommy Griffin. Graveside services will follow in the Garden of Everlasting Life.
Pallbearers will be family and friends.
The family would like to express many thanks to Gary’s long-time physician, Dr. Bernard P. Grunstra, MD and the staff at Internal Medicine of Bristol.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or to Disabled Veterans (DAV) Kingsport #38, 1550 Fort Henry Drive, Kingsport, TN 37664.
