Phylis A. Schelbert, age 80, of Merrill, WI, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 5, 2023, at her home under the care of her family and Aspirus Comfort Care & Hospice. Phylis was born in
Tomahawk, WI, on April 17, 1942, to the late George and Juanita (Barton) Conant.
Phylis was a 1960 graduate of Tomahawk High School and later completed her nurse's aide training at Nicolet College in Rhinelander, WI, after which she worked in several nursing homes/hospitals including Golden Age, Sacred Heart, Riverview, Friendly Village, and Colonial Manor. She also worked at Northern Wire in Merrill, Lemke Cheese and Wisconsin Box, both in Wausau, WI, and ended her working career at Lincoln Wood Products in Merrill where she worked for 11 years. Phylis married Wilhelm Schelbert on January 22, 1988. She was previously married to Delmar Bradley, Sr., (deceased) and had three children together, Delmar, Jr., Sherry Waldburger, and George Bradley. Phylis was also previously married to John Springer, Sr., and had two sons, Leroy Springer and John Springer, Jr. In 2008, Phylis retired and spent her time doing many of her favorite hobbies including crocheting, needlepoint, latch hook, knitting, photography/bird watching, jigsaw puzzles, crossword puzzles, reading, going to casinos, garage sales, and volunteer work.
Phylis is survived by her husband, Wilhelm Schelbert, of Merrill; her sons, George Bradley, of Merrill, Leroy Springer, of Coloma, WI, and John (Tracy) Springer, of Kronenwetter, WI; her daughter, Sherry Waldburger, of Rhinelander; and her stepchildren, Willy (Tara) Schelbert, of Merrill, Monica (Mickey) Pierce, of Irma, WI, Bernadet (Brad) Leder, of Wausau, Rose (Brad) Plautz, of Merrill, and Anna (Paul) Pfaffenroth, of Oshkosh, WI. She is further survived by her grandchildren, Angel Waldburger, of Rhinelander, Brett (Kristina) Krause, of Rhinelander, Jacob Springer, of Kronenwetter; and her step grandchildren, Samantha (Joshua) Stanke, Elijah Schelbert, Ethan Schelbert, Olivia Pierce, Jackson Pierce, Judah Leder, Gracelyn Leder, Clayton Pfaffenroth, Cade Pfaffenroth, Rebecca (Mark) Newman, and Lewis (Shawn Robins) Wisniewski; in addition to her great-grandchildren, Jeoffrey Ellis and Willow Waldburger. She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Juanita; her sister, Rose Bradwisch; her brother, Roy Conant; her son, Delmar Bradley, Jr.; her daughter-in-law, Jeanette Springer; and her grandson, Geoffrey Potvine.
Memorial Mass for Phylis Schelbert will be held on Saturday, April 15, 2023, at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Merrill at 11:00 AM. The family will receive friends for visitation from 10:00 AM until the time of services at 11:00 AM. The visitation will be held in the cafeteria using Door #7. Lunch will follow.
