Phyllis Artis

Waverly Our dear mother Phyllis Avanelle Artis sadly passed away on June 19, 2023 at the age of 87. She was a wonderful mother who was always there when we needed her. She also had many friends and was a well-loved member of the community in Sciotoville and Waverly.

Phyllis was born March 29, 1936 and was the daughter of the late Ivory and Myrtle Porter.

Phyllis married the love of her life, the late Ronald D. Artis on October 8, 1955.

Their children were their pride and joy, daughters Tammie (Jim) Brown, Rhonda Jarrells, Cindy (Pat) Flohre and son Dale (Carol) Artis, grandsons Greg (Debbie) Brown, Kurt Brown, granddaughter Lindsey (Joe) Webb, grandson Derek (Tya) Coldiron, granddaughter Chelsea (Ryan) Beaty, grandson Cameron and granddaughter Sydney Artis, great-granddaughter Olivia Brown, great grandson Oliver Coldiron and great granddaughter Kinsley Beaty.

In her senior year at New Boston in 1954, Phyllis began her career at Williams Shoe Factory until 1957. She also worked at Millhuff's Department Store in Wheelersburg from 1969-1984

and Martings Department Store from 1984-2004 when Martings closed and she retired.

Phyllis is survived by sisters Eunice Lee, Rethea Frazier and Connie Woods, and brother Don Porter. She is celebrating in heaven with brothers, Paul Porter and Wendell Porter and sister Marcella Porter. Also surviving is her sweet friend Alma Harrington whom together loved canning and freezing summer vegetables, walks around Bristol Village, giggling and enjoyed a year-around fireplace in their lobby.

She enjoyed spending time with her family, was an avid seamstress, loved to appliqué, and loved her Hallmark movies. Most of all, she is known for her lifetime smile.

Funeral Services will be held at 6:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 21, 2023 at Botkin-Hornback Funeral Home in Waverly with Pastor Dave Burriss officiating. The family will receive friends from 4:00 p.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home. Burial will take place at 10:00 a.m. Friday, June 23, 2023 at Sunset Memory Garden in Franklin Furnace, Ohio.
