Phyllis Carver
Phyllis Pritchard Carver, age 80, of Summer Lane in Spruce Pine went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, September 25, 2025 at Life Care in Banner Elk.
Born on October 30, 1944 in Avery County, she was the daughter of the late Tom and Annie Ollis Pritchard. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Luther Carver who passed away in 2019. Also preceding her in death was her daughter; Robin Carver Austin, her sons; Benji and David Carver, her great granddaughter, Izzy Carver, her sisters; Fostina McGuire and Mart Jackson, and her brothers; Gerald and Boston Pritchard.
Phyllis was a charter member of the Emmaus Road Baptist Church. She was the best Sunday School teacher and a renowned director of Christmas plays, church programs and weddings. She took every step with her husband, Rev. Luther Carver and traveled with him to revivals throughout the Southeastern United States. She was a great supporter of many different Christian based outreach missions.
She worked at Long Brothers Roofing and Sears. In 1983, she helped organize Carver Roofing where she was the co-owner. She was the head coach for Temple Christian School basketball and volleyball teams in Gastonia. She was known as the best cook with any food that she prepared, nothing was like hers.
Left to cherish her memories are her son; Rev. Tommy Carver and wife, Karen, her son-in-law; Larry Austin and wife, Ginny, her daughter-in-law; Lorene Carver Profitt, her grandchildren; Shasta Smith and husband, Kent, Rev. Cameron Carver and wife, Deidra, Tiffaie Carver, Lucus Carver and wife, Kim, Rev. Remington Austin and wife, Maggie, Maverick Austin and wife, Kendal, Marlee Austin, and Briley Austin, her great grandchildren; Jaxson Smith, Saylor Smith, Holland Austin, Finn Carver, Remi Rose Austin, and Elin Carver, her sister; Lueretta Shook, and her brother; Hill Pritchard and her special nieces and nephews.
The funeral service for Phyllis Carver was held on Sunday, September 28, 2025 at 3:00 pm at the Bethel Missionary Baptist Church and the Rev's. Tommy Carver, Cameron Carver, Remington Austin, Derrick Wilson and Steve Robinson officiated. The family received friends on Sunday, September 28, 2025 from 1:00 pm until 3:00 pm at Bethel Missionary Baptist Church. Interment was in the Bethel Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery.
