Our dear mother, Phyllis Jean Coleman, known to her family and friends as Jean, passed away on December 5, 2023, in Fruit Heights, Utah. Jean was born on June 10, 1934, and grew up in a beautiful, wooded canyon (she referred to as the holler) called Sugar Creek on the outskirts of Charleston, West Virginia. Her father, James Casdorph, built their home for his wife Myrtle Vaughn and their 8 children, Jean being the youngest child. She loved growing up in Sugar Creek and always considered herself a true southern gal. She would often turn on her southern hillbilly accent when teasing. The Casdorph Family were converts to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and eventually moved to Salt Lake City, Utah where Jean met and married the love of her life Leon Paul Coleman. The two were married and sealed for eternity on January 14, 1955, in the Salt Lake Temple. Jean and Leon raised their four children in Woods Cross, Centerville, and Bountiful Utah. Leon proceeded her in death on the 12th of October 2018.

Perhaps the best word to describe Jean is beautiful. She simply made life more beautiful for everyone she met because of her Christ like charity. Her primary focus in life was following the savior and she demonstrated this through her devotion to her husband and children and all those she associated with. She dedicated her life to raising her children with love, compassion, and faith in Jesus Christ. Jean also shared her beauty through the many church callings in which she served. She was especially keen on remembering and celebrating the birthdays of those she loved, even as her family grew larger. Jean was an accomplished homemaker, cook and artist. She decorated countless stunning birthday and wedding cakes. She always had the ability to make her home a place of peace and beauty.

Jean was the last in her immediate family to pass away. She is proceeded in death by her mother, father and siblings Wilford, Juanita, Nellie, Garland, Helen, Judy, and Richard. Jean is survived by her children Steven and Nery Coleman, Kenneth and Debbie Coleman, Brian and Julie Coleman, and Angela and Frank Clawson. She has 19 grandchildren and 31 great grandchildren.

Services for Jean will be on Saturday, December 16, 2023 at 11:00 am at the Fruit Heights 4th Ward, 24 Country Lane, Fruit Heights. Friends and family may gather for a viewing from 9:00 am to 10:45 am at the church. Jean will be laid to rest next to her husband following the service at the Kaysville City Cemetery, 500 East Crestwood Road, Kaysville.
