Phyllis Counts Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home & Crematory - Kempsville Chapel on Mar. 2, 2026.
We are saddened to announce that Phyllis M. Pait Counts, age 82, passed away on January 23, 2026.

Born on June 17, 1943, Phyllis devoted her life to caring for her home and family. A striking red head with a warm smile, she was affectionately known as "Big Red," a nickname lovingly given to her by her beloved husband. Known for her kindness, her calm presence, and her quiet nature, she shared her love gently and generously with everyone around her.

In 1962, she met the love of her life, Jimmy Counts, beginning a lifelong partnership filled with devotion and joy. They married soon after and shared 64 wonderful years together.

Phyllis lived with stage 4 kidney cancer for more than 30 years, facing every challenge with extraordinary courage and grace, never once complaining about her illness. Her resilience inspired everyone who knew her.

She was preceded in death by her sister, Joyce Singletary, and her daughter, Sandy D. Counts.

Left to cherish her memory is her husband, Jimmy G. Counts; her son, Cary D. Counts; and her daughter, Lisa R. Todd (Counts). She is survived by her grandchildren, Tyler A. Rocke, Mary A. Todd, Joey Counts, Justin Counts, and Chelsea Counts. She also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews who loved her dearly.

Phyllis will be remembered for her gentle heart, her kind and quiet spirit, and the comfort she brought to all who loved her.

A service will be held at The Dowless Cemetery on March 21, 2026, at 12:00 p.m. A reception will follow at the home of Mike Pait, located at 11872 NC Hwy 87W, Tar Heel, NC 28392.
