Phyllis Melton offered the final letting go of the body on October 3, 2022 and is now resting in the arms of God. Phyllis Lynn Davidson Melton was born to William T. Davidson and Ruth Howle on June 16, 1944. She married Burt Melton with whom she celebrated their 60th Anniversary on September 9th. They have three sons, Brooks, Patrick and Craig. She graduated from Queens University.

Phyllis was a ruling elder at Charlotte's First Presbyterian Church where she served as President of Presbyterian Women and Manager of the Loaves and Fishes Pantry. She also served as President of Loaves and Fishes of Charlotte and the first President of A Child's Place, a school for homeless children, initially housed at First Presbyterian. Phyllis was awarded a Lifetime Membership in Presbyterian Women in recognition of her years and service in the church. She was a member of the Weekly Centering Prayer Group that meets at St. John's Episcopal Church.

Prior to moving back to Charlotte in 1987, she and her family lived in Fayetteville where she served as Chair of The Fayetteville Board of Education, Co-chair of a movement to raise the money and build a new Cumberland County Public Library and President of the Junior League.

In addition to public service, Phyllis enjoyed her horses. She taught her grandchildren to ride and frequently hitched her truck to her horse trailer and pulled them to her beloved mountains to ride. Throwing pots on her wheel was another favorite activity.

She was predeceased by her parents and is survived by her husband, Burt; sons Brooks and wife, Jessica; Patrick and wife, Spencer; Craig and wife, Julie; and Melton grandchildren; Morgan, Brooks Jr., Reid, Sydney Elaine, Jackson, Walker and Ava.

A Service in Witness to the Resurrection will occur at First Presbyterian, 200 West Trade Street on November 4, 2022 at 2:00 PM. A private committal service will be held in the church's columbarium. Following the example of Christ, Phyllis has entered the heart of the world especially the hearts of her family and friends.

In lieu of flowers gifts can be made in Phyllis' memory to First Presbyterian Church at 200 West Trade Street, Charlotte, NC 28202 and designated either for Loaves and Fishes or the Lakeview Neighborhood Alliance. The LNA serves to empower the Lakeview community through leadership, resources, and advocacy.
