Winn Lyon Moore (fondly known as Lucy) of
Charlotte, NC, passed away peacefully on Sunday morning, August 24, 2025, at the age of 78. She was the beloved daughter of the late George Albert Lyon Jr. and the late Aileen Collison Emerick, and was preceded in death by her sister, Susan Lyon.
Born on April 20, 1947, in Birmingham, MI, Winn spent her childhood there before moving to Miami, FL, where she attended the University of Miami. As a young woman, she loved horseback riding, deep sea fishing, and spending time in Bimini, Bahamas.
She later made her home in Vero Beach, FL, where she dedicated her time to volunteering, playing tennis and golf, and, most importantly, raising her two children. After her years in Vero Beach, Winn moved to
Charlotte, NC, where she built a career with Amethyst and Carolinas Healthcare System (Atrium Health) until her retirement in 2016. In Charlotte, she also found great joy in volunteering with the Children's Miracle Network and the Assistance League of Charlotte. Charlotte is where she met and married her husband, Thomas F. Moore Jr., and together they shared 23 years.
Winn loved the outdoors and had a special appreciation for both the water and the mountains. She especially loved the salt water, the beach, and the sand, whether in Florida or along the coasts of the Carolinas, where she always found peace and happiness. She also cherished her time in the mountains, especially in Blowing Rock, NC. More than anything, she treasured being with her grandchildren, who brought her the greatest joy. Winn was also a loyal and caring friend to many, always someone people could count on for kindness and support.
Winn is survived by her husband, Thomas F. Moore Jr.; her children, Kelly Myers (Philip), and Matthew Wheeler (Beth), her step-children Tom Moore III (Kristin) and Gray Moore (Gina); her grandchildren, Lilly Myers, Clara Myers, Riley Wheeler, and Ryder Wheeler and step-grandchildren Rachel Moore, Thomas Moore IV, and Macon Moore. She is also survived by her siblings; Bert Lyon, Jane Priest (Ed), George Hain (Robbie), Karen Hain, and Kimberly Johnson (Eric), as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who will remember her dearly.
A service will be held in the Chapel at Providence United Methodist Church at 2810 Providence Road in
Charlotte, NC on September 8th at 1:00 PM.
