Date of Death: January 6, 2025
Date of Birth: March 5, 1947
Phyllis (Jordan) Gamache, 77, of Lisbon Falls, Maine passed away peacefully on January 6, 2025 with family by her side after a short battle with pancreatic cancer.
Phyllis, or Phyl as she was affectionately known, was born on March 5, 1947. She grew up in Lisbon, Maine and attended the local schools, graduating from Lisbon High School in 1965, where she met the love of her life, Daniel Gamache. She went on to attend and graduate from the University of Maine in 1969 with a degree in Education and married Dan that summer, on August 16th. While at UMaine, Phyllis met her lifelong "fab four" friends Judy, Sally and Phyllis D. who gave her the special nickname "Zelda". Phyllis began her teaching career in Oxford Hills, Maine but soon returned to her hometown and became a beloved teacher for 31 years in the Lisbon School System. She taught grades K, 1 and 3 over the years and was an active member of the educational service sorority Delta Kappa Gamma for many years. Phyllis was also very active in the Lisbon High School Athletic Boosters, once her daughters started high school. She cheered tirelessly, not only for her own children, but was known for her support for all team members. She worked often at the concession stand when her girls were not playing.
Phyllis's favorite place in the world was the family camp that her father built on Allen Pond, Greene, Maine. As a child she grew up going to camp every weekend, and she continued this tradition with her own family. She and Dan spent many happy summers living at camp together and enjoying each other, and all that summer life on the water had to offer. She enjoyed the summer holiday weekends most of all, when up to 20 family members would gather at camp and enjoy time together swimming, fishing, sunbathing, and sharing stories and memories.
Phyllis's pride and joy were her four grandchildren: Jack (22), Levi 19), Annabelle (18) and Lyla (16). Until her final days she was cheering them on at sporting events and calling them "her babies". If you bumped into Phyl somewhere, you were bound to hear about her "babies" and see the love on her face as she talked about them.
Phyllis is survived by her loving husband, Dan of Lisbon Falls, Maine, her daughter Kate and son in law Matt Shumway of Epping, NH, her daughter Angel Tibbetts of Lisbon Falls, Maine, her grandchildren Jack and Levi Tibbetts, of San Antonio, Texas and Lisbon Falls, Maine and Annabelle and Lyla Shumway of Epping, NH, her sister and brother in law Carolyn (Pip) and Randy Jones of Lisbon Falls, Maine, her sister in law Phyllis Jordan of Beverly Hills, Florida, and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends who all loved her dearly.
Phyllis was predeceased by her parents Leon and Shirley Jordan, her brother Wesley Jordan, and her brother Donald Jordan.
A special shout out to the "Swim Gals", the "Coffee Gals", and the "Fab Four" for your friendship, kindness, love and support for Phyllis. You were all very important to her.
Special thanks to the Hospice House of Auburn, Maine for making the end of her life as peaceful and comfortable as possible. The compassion and dignity she received was second to none.
