Phyllis is survived by her daughters, Cheryl (Michael) Roiger of Sidney, Montana; Lynnda Kalk and Julie Goltz, both of New Ulm; sons, Tom (Marilyn) Goltz of La Crosse, Wisconsin, and Joel Goltz of New Ulm; 10 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren plus numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Richard Goltz; infant son, Brian Goltz; son-in-law, Ernest Kalk; granddaughter-in-law, Eden Elizabeth "Bliss" Kalk; sisters, Annette Wendinger and Joan Wendinger; and brother, Cletus (Rita) Wendinger.
Phyllis was born on April 16, 1930, in New Ulm, to Alfred and Katherine (Ries) Wendinger. On June 21, 1949, she was united in marriage to Richard Goltz at the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity. They were married 61 years. Their union was blessed with six children.
Phyllis and Richard farmed in Bernadotte Township, Nicollet County, until 1979, when they retired and moved to New Ulm. In September 2018, she moved into the Ridgeway Assisted Living community. Life on the farm reflected Phyllis's dedication and resilience. She worked tirelessly alongside Richard, tending the fields, dairy cows and raising chickens. In the early years the quaint farmhouse they lived in lacked many modern conveniences; with a wood-burning cooking stove, a hand pump for water and chamber pots, but she faced every challenge with determination and resourcefulness. She took pride in her large garden and spent many hours canning her harvests to provide for her family.
Phyllis grew up in Klossner, MN attending a small country school. As a young person she worked in her father's general store (Wendinger Store) and enjoyed roller skating at the Klossner Ballroom with friends. Later in life, she never missed an issue of the New Ulm Journal and loved reading books and completing jigsaw puzzles. She was active as a volunteer for the local Disabled American Veterans (DAV) Chapter 15 clothing drive project while enjoying the camaraderie of the vets and their spouses. She looked forward to monthly luncheons with her cousins, and having her hair done by a dear family friend, Joyce Griebel. Above all, she cherished her family. All her grandchildren remember the Tupperware container filled with her homemade cookies whenever they stopped by to visit.
Phyllis was a devoted member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and the DAV Chapter 15 Ladies' Auxiliary.
